After qualifying in 1999 from the University of Port Elizabeth with a Bachelor of Architecture degree, Elizabeth travelled and worked in London until the end of 2002 before returning to Cape Town and starting Elizabeth Hodgson Architects.
During her 20 years as an architect specialising in the exclusive residential market Elizabeth’s design philosophy has been to create visually sensitive and well-crafted spaces where light plays a key role to enhance the overall experience of her buildings. She focusses on sustainability through innovation while still achieving contemporary homes that are practical and true to context and nature.
“I love the intimate creative process with clients that starts sometimes just as a feeling and results in a home that is an everlasting experience”
As an advocate for energy efficient buildings Elizabeth pays much attention to choosing local materials where possible and supporting local skills, as well as following latest trends and technologies in order to reduce energy usage with specific attention to choice of finishes, products and design principles that contribute to a comfortable and efficient building. Elizabeth loves being hands-on on a building site watching as her designs come to life.
Influenced by her architect father and artist mother, she loves being creative with a keen interest in interiors and furniture and a passion for gardening and landscaping. She designs from a holistic point of view while always involving the client as much as possible.
